Sting Promoters Pulls Plug On 2016 Blames Vybz Kartel Absence From Dancehall

Sting Promoters Pulls Plug On 2016 Blames Vybz Kartel Absence From Dancehall
Sting promoters have officially announced that they have canceled the 2016 staging of the concert. Vybz Kartel‘s incarceration has a big role to play in the demise of the show.
Supreme Promotions principals Isaiah Laing and Heavy D sat down for an interview with Winford Williams where they break down why the show was axed this year. “Headline artists… The last two three years the headline acts just wasn’t there so there was no crowd at Sting,” Heavy D said. The promoter attribute that void in headline acts to the absence of Vybz Kartel from dancehall for the last five years. “Since Kartel gone [prison] its sad but the headline move, so we can’t get back that type of headline right now,” he added. “You can have 50 artists to work but if you don’t have two [hot artists] the other 48 don’t count.” Only a few days ago Ninja Man revealed that there will be no Sting 2016 and that he is in fear of his life due to his …

I Warned Kartel — Queen Ifrica

I Warned Kartel — Queen Ifrica
Reggae singer Queen Ifrica has never been one to back down from offering her views on a controversial topic and hence when asked by Splash of her views on the issue regarding alleged recordings by incarcerated dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel, she noted that the artiste would not be in prison had he listened to her. “If Kartel did listen to me he would not be in prison right now, because I warned him that this was coming. The society that we live in, they will not tell you to stop the foolishness, but when you are forced to stop they will not stand by you. Kartel learned that the hard way. The fact that his music is still so popular shows how much of a reach he has. Young people love what he says and a lot of what he sings about — the bleaching and the party and so on are associated with certain products and some people want the products to move off the shelves.” Queen Ifrica believes the authorities should allow the incarcerated deejay to record from behind…

Perhaps the biggest winner in all of this is Kalado whose hit song “Sex Slave” was being played. About halfway into the video you can see Marvin snatching the female’s wig. She then run off to go hide in the back of the club. “Sex Slave has a World Cup concept and one with a Steel Band orchestra,” Kalado said. “Marvin and Sher were the ones who organised one of the concepts and asked me to be a part of it. I agreed and that video also helped to take the song go another level.”

Aside from expressing shock that the deejay was moved from one facility to another, many key industry players have refused to comment on the matter, stating that the issue was way too sensitive for them to give their opinion. THE WEEKEND STAR contacted Notnice, one of the producers with whom the incarcerated deejay has worked over the years, who although he was aware of the move, was unwilling to say anything. "Mi hear say him move, but mi can't give my opinion on something I don't know the facts or no details about," he said before going silent. Producer Seanizzle was also contacted for a comment, but…

Vybz Kartel Could Be Given Permission To Record Music In GP

Vybz Kartel sudden move to GP two weeks ago came as a surprise but it may have been orchestrated by the dancehall deejay. People inside the Gaza camp are telling us that his transfer to the Tower Street Adult Correctional Center is because he could be granted permission by a judge to record music in prison. Since his arrest in 2011, Kartel has maintained his relevance in dancehall and even winning awards for top artist of the year twice.  “It’s very possible that he will get permission from the judge to record music in prison,” sources told us. “Prison authorities are also in full support of the move because they sees it as him contributing to society, as well as, the prison system by helping other inmates rehabilitate. Plus there is a full studio at GP which would allow him to record better quality music and even upgrade some of those equipment.” His recently revived Gully/Gaza feud with Mavado brought the spotlight on the …

Usain Bolt more popular than Bob Marley? NBC Sports veteran angers reggae legend's fans

NBC Sports veteran Bob Costas has drawn fire for comparing the popularity of two Jamaican legends.

Costas, during NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio, said Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt has now "outdistanced" the country's reggae icon, Bob Marley.

His remarks drew immediate criticisms from social media users.
"Blasphemy! Did Bob Costas just say Usain Bolt is bigger than Bob Marley in Jamaica? He is amazing but come on maan," Dr Marc Williams said, adding the hashtag #Buffoonery.

Astead Wesley tweeted: "Bob Costas comparing Bolt's popularity to Bob Marley is what happens when you only know two Jamaicans."

Another social media user, Clemzingis injected some humour with his comment: "I guara…
